The Ajax-Pickering Board of Trade
Environment Task Force
Environment Task Force
Mandate:
To provide tools, information, guidance and recognition to assist APBOT members to establish environmentally responsible practices within their businesses and at home, and to promote a culture of conservation and sustainability within the Ajax and Pickering Business Community.
Mission Statement:
To provide leadership in fostering awareness and understanding amongst APBOT members that conservation and environmental management must be a high corporate priority and are key elements to sustainability, good corporate citizenship and potentially lower operational costs.
The committee:
The Board of Trade gathered the expertise and knowledge of several qualified members to form an Environment Task Force two years ago to find ways to raise environmental awareness among the Board’s member businesses. The task force developed the Eco-Business program, launched in 2009, to create a way to inspire businesses to find ways to reduce their carbon footprint and recognize them for making that effort. The program identifies practices that can easily be applied by local businesses through a simple template checklist that helps companies evaluate their impact on the environment and their conservation efforts.
The Board of Trade would like to thank the many people who have served on the Environment Task Force, past and present, who have lead to the success of the Eco-Business program. Neil Samson chaired the committee during the inception and implementation of the program and dedicated individuals such as Barb Hodgins, Chantal Whitaker, Andrea Dube Goss, Gary Strange, Dave Johnson, Jackie Hunter, Don Terry and Ellen McRae, with the necessary support of their individual organizations, were instrumental in the formation of the Task Force, with several other individuals offering expertise on an informal basis over the past few years, as well.
Today, the current committee consists of dedicated new volunteers such as Andrew Ross, Tracy Chala, Michelle Pongracz and Rachael Wraith, joining continuing members Andrea, Gary and Don, with the ongoing support of several more individuals past and present who have and continue to support the environmental leadership goals of the Board. The Board of Trade extends our gratitude for all of this support.
