On March 7th, Ian and Janet Chandler of The Carbon Neutral Shredding Company were at Lincoln Avenue Public School offering free shredding services to Ajax-Pickering Board of Trade (APBOT) members and their employees. The event was part of a partnership between The Carbon Neutral Shredding Company and APBOT's Eco Business Advisory Committee (EBAC) and the purpose was to raise donations for the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The timing of this event couldn’t have been more opportune as Coca Cola Canada will match dollar for dollar all funds raised for the WWF until March 15th, 2013. The Carbon Neutral Shredding Company processed over 28 banker’s boxes of paper in their mobile shredding truck that runs entirely on used vegetable oil.

The event raised $190 for WWF which translates to $380 when coupled with Coca Cola’s portion. There is still time to participate in this worthwhile fundraising campaign as there will be another free shredding event at the region of Durham headquarters in Whitby from 8-10:30 am on March 14th. APBOT members are welcome to bring their donations and documents that require shredding at that time.

There were approximately 40 people in the basement of Safari Bar and Grill in Ajax for our first of four EcoChats that will be held this year. There was a diverse group of attendees that included APBOT Eco Businesses, members and others. Mayor Steve Parish of Ajax stopped by as well as Doug Dickerson, Deputy Mayor of Pickering. The format was informal and attendees had the opportunity network and exchange “green” ideas in a casual atmosphere.
