Bill 168 - Violence & Harassment in the Workplace

The Ajax-Pickering Board of Trade hosted a special information event June 9 to help businesses ensure they understand the new requirements of Violence and Harassment in the Workplace, legislation coming into effect as of June 15.

Bill 168 amends the Occupational Health and Safety Act to address issues of workplace harassment and violence. In order to understand what is expected, consultants Leslie Yeates of ROCG Global Consultants and Bernadette Smith of In House Human Resources presented the facts and answered questions related to the new rules.


The Ajax-Pickering Board of Trade takes seriously its role of supporting the membership, to help business owners be informed of industry and government legislation that effects them says 2010 President Jason Cameron. He welcomed attendees to the event and explained the importance of staying infoemd on such legislation.

Jim McLellan of McLellan Contracting talks to Rogers TV about Bill 168 and what he took away from the APBOT seminar.

"Workplaces in Ontario will be required to have the necessary policies, programs, measures and procedures in place," explained Mr. Cameron. "We hope this session will provide an opportunity for business owners and human resources staff to learn the necessary details they require and answer any questions they may have."
