Unlocking Newcomer Talent in Durham Region: Making Newcomer Hiring and Retention Easier for Employers

While there are many programs and services to help employers find newcomer talent, and programs for job seekers to find job vacancies, it can be challenging to know where to start.

The purpose of this webinar is to spotlight three organizations working in Durham to assist and connect employers with qualified immigrant talent:

• Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada
• Invest Durham
• Welcome Centre Immigrant Services, Pickering

In addition to hearing from these three service providers, employers will hear about other programs and opportunities that support newcomer hiring and retention in Durham.

This event is hosted by Durham Local Immigration Partnership (LIP), a dynamic network of settlement service providers, business and industry leaders, education, health and social service partners, with a shared commitment to fostering a welcoming environment that includes meaningful and sustainable employment opportunities for newcomers in Durham Region.

Who should attend? Employers in Durham and local stakeholders with questions about hiring immigrant talent and resources that support hiring and retention.

Why? There are various agencies and programs available to help employers hire tap into the wealth of immigrant talent arriving in Canada. The purpose of this webinar is to break down some of the complexities associated with newcomer hiring and highlight existing supports and resources available.

What to expect:

• A representative from Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada will speak about different types of work permits and how to ensure your business remains compliant with work permit regulations.
• Maylene Broderick, Manager of Business Development and Investment will share information about the regional and municipal services and resources for employers through Invest Durham and local municipal economic development advisors.
• Jimm't Dawes, Manager of Welcome Centre Immigrant Services, Pickering will share about community services and programs that are helping employers find local immigrant talent and preparing immigrant professionals in their job search and the workplace.
